Because of its esoteric reputation, many people feel intimidated by attempting corsetry. The components you’re asked to procure and the terms used are confusing and unknown to even experienced seamstresses. The essentials can be tricky to source, and when you have them… well what then?
What is lacking is the crucial know-how. Having someone standing over your shoulder to guide you towards a professional finish, and away from common pitfalls. To save you time, money and effort by helping you avoid costly errors and help you to break down the code of corsetry.
In an easy to digest and manageable set of examples with comprehensive notes for you to take home, we would like to invite you on a whistle-stop tour of what you need to know. Where to find your supplies, the most cost-effective ways of using them, and those all important basics in getting to grips with your new-found passion. All in a fun, sociable couple of hours spent in our studio within the beautiful and scenic setting of Shrewsbury. Come and join us soon, to unlock a world of intriguing craftsmanship and a whole new arena of techniques and skills for you to draw from.
£30 PP for an afternoon short course of troubleshooting, essential know-how, and suggestions for alternative techniques and more advanced processes.
A little about our courses
Our corset making courses have been running for years, bringing together passionate, creative people from all walks of life for every imaginable reason. The groups of up to 4 students are given a relaxed, inviting environment in which to learn, set in the rooftops of medieval Shrewsbury where they take on an entirely new set of skills. Each leaves with an object that is less a garment, and more a piece of wearable art, personal to them in every way, precise in fit, finish and cut.
The best thing about it is that you don’t have to be an expert seamstress to take on this project. We demystify the process for you, taking a step by step approach to the corsets creation to make each bitesize process into a more manageable whole. If you can use a sewing machine, and can sew a straight line, we can show you how to polish your skills and take them to an entirely new level.
We also take on a limited number of one on one courses for those who feel they are ready to take on a greater challenge, or who want to try something completely fresh. We can cover such varied topics as corded corsets, historical pattern grading, cupped corsets, alternative boning techniques or indeed, anything you can imagine. If this is of interest to you please get in touch with us to discuss your ideas.
