Although I purchased an underbust tulipa corset for my girlfriend nearly 3 years ago, I was inspired to comment after the fantastic service Beth gave me whilst purchasing a small Christmas present last week. Despite being a Mich cheaper item than a corset, Beth was unbelievably helpful, gave me great advice and really went out of her way to make sure I got it in time for Christmas, gift wrapped as well!
My girlfriends desert orchid corset still looks just as good today as it did when new, is really well made and sturdy and according to her fits and feels great. When I bought it, Beth worked really hard to help me choose the right fabrics and it turned out just as I had imagined. I’m a designer by trade so know how hard it can be interpreting a customers ideas and coming up with the perfect final outcome so efficiently!
I wish more companies offered this level of service, I will definately be back soon, and wouldn’t think of going anywhere else. Absolute top class!
Well – just been trekking for three weeks, and only got home – The ribbon corset was the first coset of choice – no contest! One of the few home comforts that I’ve really missed, it honestly is that good!
I’ll have to order a smaller one now, having lost some weight….

Aaah, finally I found how to log in for a review.
I am now proudly wearing my lovely Tulipa corset that found my home some 2 months ago. When I ordered it I was very nervous about shape and fit, since I never ever before measured myself for a corset before. And also I had only a vague idea about what kind of fabric I wanted. Bethan apparently understood my rant about vague colorcombo’s and picked the most awesomely brocade for me and patiently put up with my anxious measurement-emails. <3
Anyway, I can not close the corset yet and I started with a modest reduction in the first place, but even when it is laced not tight at all, I now have meself a set of curves that makes most people gasp in awe. This corset will make the most straight shaped person a true hourglass round hipped small waisted look-at-me-belle. It gives such an incredible shape! And I can still ride my bicycle when I am laced, which I have to do a LOT for my work. It is that comfortable. Heh.
As for the looks of the corset itself, I wanted it to be my waist training corset but Bethan made it so pretty with all the brocade and shinies that I feel bad about hiding it under my daily clothes…. It's truly stunning and looks tres chique.
So, you looking for something to stand out? Both shape-wise and fabric-and-trims-wise? Ask Bethan to make you a Tulipa. Seriously. Go write that email that has been burning in your keypad now. You'll look as good as I do in it and that is pretty damn HOT! Haha.
I'll go kiss my Tulipa goodnight now. Ciao!
Oh Marjolijne, You remain amongst the sweetest and loveliest of clients that any corsetiere could ask for! Thankyou for your wonderful review, and for bringing such exciting and creative ideas for your designs. It was such a pleasure to make your corsets! I look forward to working with you again, keep those stunning ideas coming!

My first corset from Bethan is also a Tulipa, and is just amazing, but a complete contrast to the Ribbon Corset (see my other review), with incredibly sturdy 4-layer construction, and with enough boning that would provide additional support to the Forth Bridge if necessary! Despite the ironmongery, it is exquisitly comfortable.
It is a wonderful garment where engineering and the exquisite skills of the artistry of Bethan’s corsetry meet in perfect harmony!
I am long in the torso, and this has been built, essentially as an extremely long underbust, so there is continual hold from low in the hips to high over the ribs, and the feeling of total support is just amazing. Built in black satin coutil, the lining is burgundy, as is the top and bottom trim, so it is very classy indeed! As I said, a completely different experience to the lightness of the ribbon corset, but variety is the spice of life, (especially with fine corsets), and I feel that I now have the two extremes of the Bethan’s corsetry spectrum, that it is now time to sample o few more delights in between.
Bethan is the UK’s finest corsetiere. Need I say any more…….!!!
Firstly, I’m very delighted nad privileged to be able to be the first to leave a comment on the new Desert Orchid Customer comments page.
A quick introduction about me, as this is relevent to the rest of the review. Well – hold your breath girls – a review from a corsetted gentleman – gasp – shock – horror! Yes – I do chose to tight lace (well – moderate to tight, depending on mood) but as a non-CD/non-TS/non-TV, I choose to lace for back support, and feeling of comfort and well-being derived from a well fitted corset – oh and the by-product of figure control is good too! For me it is a lifestyle choice, and after many years of doing so, it is thoroughly addictive.
So in light of the above, my corsets have to be exceedingly well made, with superb fit and comfort.
I discovered Desert Orchid corsets a couple of years ago, my first corset being a fantastic full length number, which I’ll review another time, but for this review, I will sing the virtues of the new line of Ribbon Corsets that Bethan is now producing.
These cheaky little corsets look rather innocent, but they still pack a powerful punch. They are extremely light, and really do become very un-noticable under clothing, compared to regular corsetry. The shaping and figure control is really quite amazing. Because of the overall thin-ness (essentially single layer) the feeling of being tight-laced inside these is very different too. They are so comfortable – to the extent that one can quite easily sleep in them too. Very hard to describe, but a really very different sensation to full-blown corsets – you can almost feel your skin through the corset.
Because of the size (a mere 6″ at the sides), and style of construction, the wearer retains a much greater degree of flexibility too.
And they look absolutely stunning too! I chose mine in black/purple. Three black front ribbons, with two purple ones in-between, and two black rear ribbons with a single purple in between. The side/back/front panels made of black satin coutil, with purple lacing.
My overall summary comment would be: How on earth can a fantasic looking corset that appears so light and delicate, be a true tight-lacing garment? Well – believe me – it is! I’ve owned a fair few corsets over the years, and this is very near the top – if not at the very top of my all time favourites! It is a an absolute must-have addition for any tight-lacing enthusiast’s collection of corsetry, from one of The UK’s finest bespoke corsetieres. This will satify the needs of any corset addict.
Verdict 11 out of 10.
Forgot to mention, I also ordered a lacing protector too, which I think is an essential addition to this little beauty! Best to get advice from Bethan, but I chose a 2″ gap, so the lacing protect also adds a little more back support. Otherwise, it may be best to go for a fully closed corset? Beth – over to you to comment!
Tarquin, what a thorough and charming review! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with eloquence and sass
I have referred so many people to your words when they were unsure about wether a ribbon corset could cope with their needs, and all came away convinced! We are blessed to have regulars like yourself who are so ready to try new things and embrace new styles with such enthusiasm. Enjoy your ribbon corset!
